would be alright
if no one got killed
like we did at Monte Vista
elementary in Albuquerque,
where we daily, refought the Civil War –
the two sides, gray and blue, aggregating
onto two opposing hills at recess,
and then charge across the playground
merging, blending, through
to the opposing side.
~
Two colors, blending as one.
~
Then we would all go back to class,
recess and the war all over.

nice…great piece…we played the same and i sure wish we had a better answer than war…
True.
Good poem. War is a terrible thing, no more so than when it tears a nation in two.
Yes Marvin, if it could only be held to that. American Blue and Grey, French Blue and Prussian Blue, British khaki and German field green. Always the colours are lined up in opposition while the gold braid lounges in the rear.
indeed! LOL. and the gold braid gets all the historical credits.
