D-Day

….

Day Lilies bloom

      in Central Virginia

Overnight

      round the sixth day

            each June.

~

So sudden their sight

As that seen at night

When Fireflies

      compete

            with the moon.

~

Essential phenomena,

      to Central Virginia,

When these two

      first show up

            Sixth June.

~

First come the flowers,

Followed by showers,

The comets

      too close

            to the ground.

~

D-Day, Day Lilies,

And Fireflies abound:

A bloom with a boom,

A bug with no sound.

~

To Central Virginia,

Phenomena renown.

And here, in Virginia,

All three will be found:

D-Day, Day Lilies,

      and Fireflies

            a bound.

….
