I said to the girl,
wearing Navy apparel.
Oh no!
Not me.
She replied with a smile.
My father and brother,
and also my nephew,
they were all in,
not me.
For me,
it’s all fine;
none of it matters.
~
Nor me,
said I.
I was just being friendly.
But once, when real young,
I went in the Army;
the Navy said ‘No Sir,’ to me.
I tried to enlist,
but they were real careful.
The men that they wanted,
they wanted to spell.
And I never could;
nor can I today,
find the right words
for the Knavey.
