The Sand Pebbles

~

I tossed a pebble

on to a beach –
It did not go far,

but under.

 ~

The sand   so soft,

too subtle   for feet;
’twas here,

where the rock,

surrendered.

 ~

And then,

at another,

on some other

shore,
I repeated

this action

once more.

 ~

Where before,

it was soft,

the sand

too supple –
‘Here,’

it was firm

underfoot.

 ~

And the rock

rolled round,

end-over-end;
and farther

it went,

without   sinking in.

 ~

Two beaches,

two rocks;

two relative

re-actions;
and a reference

to ‘two’

different endings!

 ~

The samples

fore-given,

I once had

fore-gotten,

showed much

in the message,

the meaning:

 ~

While soft

dissipates,

hard

animates;
and keeps

all intact,

the Being.

If one

were to Be,

it’s necessary

to Be,

and not be

disappearing.
